What is the light source?

Aqualuma lights are LED, Light Emitting Diode, the latest technology in lighting. LED is the most superior type of light on the market and far more energy efficient than all other forms of lighting, including halogen and xenon. LEDs will last almost a lifetime and are shock and vibration resistant. Life expectancy of Aqualuma LEDs is more than 50,000 hours.

What is the housing made out of?

Aqualuma’s lights are cased in a house made out of an injection moulded transparent polymer. Our polymer is specifically made for Aqualuma by one of the world’s leading manufacturers in Switzerland. Aqualuma’s is ideal for underwater lights because is immensely strong (more than 250 times stronger than glass), durable, light-weight, scratch-resistant and UV protected.

Have your lights been tested?

Yes. The housing of our lights has been pressure tested to 1300 feet below sea level and impact tested at NATA test facility.

Have your lights been certified?

Yes. They are DNV type approved, RINA type approved, ABS (pda), LLYODS register and SAE J1171 External Ignition Protection of Marine Devises.

Can the light’s housing corrode?

No, it is impossible for Aqualuma lights to corrode. Our lights are corrosion-proof as there is no metal in contact with the water. Therefore, our lights do not need to be bonded to the boat’s sacrificial anode system.

How do I look after my light?

To keep it looking its best, your Aqualuma Light will need to be cleaned every four to six weeks. Cleaning is easy and can be done with a soft cloth or soft scrubbing brush. Cleaning is important as if you don’t clean your lights, they may get a build up of marine growth, such algae or barnacles, that will affect the light projection.
It is possible to slow down growth on your lights. We have found the clear coat of “Prop Speed” to be very effective for this. It is safe to apply this product to all of our lights.

What happens if I scratch the lens of my Aqualuma light?

Don’t panic! If you scratch the lens it will not diminish the output very much and you can polish it when the boat comes out for its regular maintenance. Aqualuma’s products are renowned for their durability and are not easily damaged.

What is the nut made of?

The nut is made from 316 marine grade stainless steel, which means it won’t corrode. If you have an aluminium boat, we will supply you with an insulating washer.

Can Aqualuma Lights run out of water?

Yes. Aqualuma is one of the only underwater lights that can be run out of the water and can be on when the boat is running at any speed.

How much power do the lights?

The 1 Series uses less than 0.2 of an amp @ 12 volts and less than 0.1 of an amp @ 24 volts.

The 3 Series uses less than 0.6 of an amp @ 12 volts and less than 0.3 of an amp @ 24 volts.

The 6 Series uses less than 1.2 amps @ 12 volts and less than 0.6 of an amp @ 24 volts.

Aqualuma products use the same power on start up as they do when running  as there is no current inrush. There are no start up delays – Aqualuma lights start instantly.

Are there external drivers or ballast required for installation?

No, there are no external drivers or ballast required. Everything is internal and requires just 2 wires to be connected on the 3 and 6 series and three wires on the Tri Colour.

Are the lights polarity protected and polarity sensitive?

Yes, Aqualuma lights are both polarity protected and polarity sensitive. The red wire should always be connected to positive, and the black wire should always be connected to negative.

Is there any difference between the 12 volt light and the 24 volt light?

No. There is no difference between 12 or 24 volts; Aqualuma lights are dual voltage so they will accept either 12 or 24 volt systems. The light output and brightness is the same on either 12 or 24 volts.

What’s the difference between the different light colours?

Colour is a personal choice and each colour has different benefits. The way light travels through the water is dependant on its colour temperature. Aqualuma’s Ultra Blue is the colour temperature that penetrates water further than any other colour, therefore this is one of our most popular colours. This is followed closely by Aqualuma’s Ultra Green, which is great in fresh water. The Aqualuma Brilliant White is a very cold white light which rates at the peak of the Kelvin scale (which means it is a very bright white as opposed to the dull yellow of halogen).

If you change your mind about the colour of your light after its already been installed don’t worry – you can change the colour of your underwater light, but will need to change the internal light engine (but you will not have to haul the boat out of the water).

How easy is it to install Aqualuma lights?

Aqualuma is probably the easiest underwater light in the world to fit. Detailed instructions come with the lights but quite simply: drill the hole, apply the sealant, hand tighten the nut and connect the two wires. Quick and easy.

What if I need to repair the light?

It is very unlikely your Aqualuma light engine will fail. However, LEDs are an electronic device and sometimes things can go wrong, particularly when dealing with the harsh marine environment. Our engineers recognise this remote possibility and have made the Aqualuma light the world’s easiest and most versatile light to service and/or upgrade with no need to haul the boat out of the water once you have installed the light.

What is the warranty?

There is a 3 year warranty on all Aqualuma thru hull series. This market-leading warranty is unprecedented in underwater lighting. See the “Warranty” section of this website for further details.

What is a thru hull light?

A thru hull fitting is mounted literally through the hull of a boat. A hole is drilled and the light fitting slides into that hole and is fixed internally. Aqualuma is the only LED underwater light manufacturer in the world whose lights have the ability to be serviced while your boat remains in the water. This is an exclusive and patented design feature, meaning no other LED underwater light manufacturer in world can offer this essential feature.

What are the advantages of thru hull?

Apart from the obvious beautiful light display, the advantages of the thru hull are especially evident if you have a vessel that is permanently kept in the water. This is because Aqualuma thru hull lights are completely serviceable from inside the vessel.

How is the thru light serviceable?

The patented Aqualuma housings allow the back cap to be removed from inside the vessel. In case of a failure, the internal plug-in drivers are replaceable, as is the entire light engine without the necessity to haul your vessel from the water or replace the housing.

Can I service/fix the lights myself or should I enlist the assistance of a professional?

If you are competent and follow the instructions, there is no need to seek professional help. Aqualuma lights have been especially designed for simple maintenance and troubleshooting by either an owner or a skipper. If you don’t feel competent, it is a simple procedure for any professional. For further assistance on this issue, you can contact an Aqualuma distribute or Aqualuma direct.

Can I upgrade my thru hull lights?

Yes, you certainly can upgrade your thru hull lights. The internal serviceability of the Aqualuma thru hull range allows you to upgrade at any time, anywhere, as LED technology advances. Aqualuma now offer an upgrade package to our new GEN II range, so you can upgrade your GEN 1 lights to the latest, most powerful and reliable LEDs on the market. This is a simple and cost-effective way of increasing the light output of your vessel, without needing to haul your boat.

Do I need to bond my Aqualuma thru hull lights to the vessel’s sacrificial anode system?

No. Aqualuma thru hulls have no metal in contact with the water, this is not required.

Can I operate my lights out of the water?

Yes, Aqualuma’s underwater lights are fully operable out of the water and have been since their creation since 2005.

Are there any lens seals that could deteriorate and leak?

No, there aren’t. Aqualuma’s patented one piece housing means that there are no lens seals at all.

Trim Tab

What is the trim tab light?

The trim tab light is designed specifically to mount on the top of your trim tabs. It’s a non-intrusive option as no drilling in your boat is required.

Can I still use the trim tab light, even if I don’t have trim tabs?

Yes, the trim tab light can be mounted on a simple L bracket.

What are the advantages of the trim tab light?

There are several advantages to the trim tab light. The trim tab light fixes to your trim tabs rather than your hull. The power cable can be run up above the waterline and into your power source, so there’s no intrusion to your boat under water level. It is internally driven so it is a simple two-wire installation. Like all Aqualuma underwater lights, there is no possibility of corrosion.

Is the trim tab light serviceable?

No, it is a factory sealed unit which is completely self-contained.  For this reason, we recommend it for vessels that are not permanently kept in the water, such as trailer-able or dry-store vessels. If in the unusual case of a fault in your trim tab light, it will need to be returned to your Aqualuma distributor for replacement. All trim tab lights come with a two year warranty.

Do I need to bond my Aqualuma trim tab lights to the vessel’s sacrificial anode system?

No. Aqualuma trim tabs lights are manufactured from a high tech thermally conductive polymer, so no bonding is required.

Can I operate my lights out of the water?

Yes, Aqualuma’s underwater lights are fully operable out of the water and have been since their inception in 2005.

Dock Marina

What is the dock marina light?

The dock marina light is the world’s only specifically-designed underwater LED light for docks, marinas, jetties, waterfront properties etc. It is made from high tech thermally conductive polymer. It is a curved linear design, which spreads the light over a wider area than a conventional underwater light.

What are the advantages of the dock marina light?

Apart from making your dock or marina look more aesthetically pleasing, the dock marina light improves fishing by attracts fish and other marine life to your dock. The dock marina light also improves visibility, making it easier for you to locate your dock on a dark night. Finally, the dock marina light enhances the overall look and appearance of any water front property.

How do I install the dock marina light?

The dock marina light comes with a complete mounting kit including brackets and a fibreglass pole. Detailed instructions come with the kit, and the only thing you will need to supply is a 12 to 24 volt DC power source. And of course, the cocktails for your dockside parties.

How do I clean the dock marina light?

The mounting bracket has a 316S/S pin. When the pin is pulled and removed, the dock light will swing up out of the water to facilitate cleaning. Once removed from the water, simply wipe or scrub any barnacles or algae off the lens. Once finished cleaning, lower back into the water and replace the pin.

How often should I clean my dock marina light?

Frequency of cleaning will be dependent on your location, but generally speaking, it is recommended you check and/or clean your light every two weeks until you ascertain the amount of marine growth at your location.
